Notes and ideas for evaluation - Questions 3
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
We used a variety of IT platforms such as:
- Slideshare
- Photobucket
- Prezi
- Youtube
- Google
Google has specifically helped me to research certain information which is relevant for the music video we create. For example, on social networking sites like Twitter, I am able to connect with Marina and the Diamond fans, asking them what they would expect in one of her music videos. This has allowed me to draw out new ideas and contribute them into my music video. Youtube is another platform which allows me to view video's so that I would be able to analyse them so that I could identify key elements of music videos and the different genres. Prezi has allowed me to draw out all of my idea's in one place so that everything is in the same place and it'd be a lot easier to collect the ideas. Social networking sites are a cheap and affordable way to promote our video's to fans and spread the word which is a technique most artists use.
The actual media technologies we used was already provided for us. The platform we used to edit our video was Final Cut Pro. Using these professional equipment and platforms allowed us to create our music video in a professional way which has given us a great idea of what goes into producing and editing a music video.

Goodbye from Einas
Due to our group now breaking up for the ancillary work, I'd like to dedicate them a song/music video to them because I love them so <3
Production: Skills development
During our AS coursework I didn't feel I was able to reach my full potential while creating my Thriller. I feel that I have improved on my filming skills since AS, and I feel that we have a lot more time in A2 than we did in AS. I have come to realize that in order to improve further in my work, the lighting is an essential key element which determines the quality of the video. Looking back at AS, I am proud of the amount of planning ahead we did before creating our video because it has helped make the outcome better than I expected. In the AS year, I was less able to use technology such a camera. Considering in the A2 year we used new technology, I have gained a lot of skills and experience. For e.g:
- How to use base tracks
- The different filters
- How editing effect the pace of a MV
- Good lighting is vital
- Plan ahead before filming
- Team work

One question.
Would Marina and the Diamonds be proud of this music video?
I am going to say yes.
I feel like I have taken her mind and put it in my head for this music video and she would weep tears of joy in her welsh manor because our video is amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing.
LOVE YOU MARINA XO
Einas using motion
I decided to use motion as for our as work we used this for our titles, I thought it was a good idea as I like how you can add filter effects to it to stylize it to make your own personal style. I didn't think it was hard to do as It took 5 minutes to do it and get it onto our music video :)
Skills development
AS:
When planning this, not much time was taken out to do this as I felt we were quite rushed with the work and we only had three weeks to do it in, with editing I don't think I was successful in the preliminary as I wasn't sure on how a music video was edited, how to edit base tracks. If I were to give myself a mark out of 10 on how the editing was during this time I would give myself a 4.
A2:
With editing the music video I felt we were more careful planning out where each scene would go, what effects/transitions we would add if we added any, etc. I think that I put in a lot more effort into editing as I am a perfectionist and I wanted everything to look good, I took more time out to make sure the editing was going to be done by friday and we wouldn't be needing to extend our deadline due to poor time management. I did think editing this music video was much harder as it was longer than the 1:30 minute prelim we had to do due to revisiting basetracks in each part of the song and when we would run out of certain footage due to poor filming or the artist not singing in that part then it was much harder to find another clip to edit in. If I were to give myself a mark out of 10 on how the editing went for the MV I would give myself an 8.
How I could Improve if I were to do this again:

How I could Improve if I were to do this again:
- Manage my time even more to allow more time for final improvements, to do other tasks.
- Get better filming footage to make my editing better.
- Plan out if we were to add effects instead of putting in as an afterthought.

Editing day 6/7
Einas: I thought this was the most stressful one, as we were finishing the whole video and we had to make sure all the shots fit perfectly, everything went well. I think that we did really good as when we showcased it to our teacher and other peers they liked and didn't find much wrong with it except for little bits which we cleared up. We will add the final, final! touches in our friday lesson and hope it goes a-okay :)
Naziara: Day 6/7 of our editing was difficult as it was two days before the final deadline! We had to get all of our clips sorted and in the order we wanted as a group. This wasn't easy as we were disagreeing on a lot of things. However we had to come to agreements as the deadline was so soon! At the end of our lesson, we were happy as a group of our outcome and then presented it to our teacher, who gave us constructive criticism along with what she liked about it and what we needed to improve on. Hopefully by the deadline, we would have improved what needed to be improved and we will have a very nice music video.
Alisha: The last-minute filming created a mass of pressure as we only had a few days left. The problem with editing was that we found it challenging to fill the various gaps in our video in order it to live up to its full potential. The criticim we recieved from various sources (including our class), unexpectedly turned out better than we thought as we received a lot of positive feedback. We than took the suggestions of improvements into consideration and once we dedicated ourselves to attended as many workshops as possible, we were finally pleased with the (almost) final outcome. On the deadline, we hope to accomplish our goals of any last-minute touch ups so that the video can reflect on the maximum potential of our ability.

Pictures of our filming and explanations of each picture
Day one of our filming took place by the canal. There was various locations at the canal which we could film in. The weather was very windy, which meant that we had to take care with the media equipment. Despite having to face a few interuptions while filiming a public place with people walking past the camera whilst filming, we finished in under a few hours.
Day two of our filming turned out to be probably the best scene so far. The idea of filming in the woods was to represent the artists' sorrow and the woods being dark and mysterious we thought the woods being a place where people usually get lost in, metaphorically speaking, she is hopeless and lost in her thoughts. the significance of her wearing a bridal costume leaves the audience wondering what happened in terms of a love relationship which didn't turn out as expected.
Day three of our filming in Alisha's bedroom. This scene was inspired by Marina and the Diamonds' "Primadonna" music video. Since we are making a MV for a Marina song, we thought the idea of rollers in her hair and night gown costume would represent the influence of Marina which was contributed towards our video. The bedroom scene works well with the Highgate woods scene in terms of contrasting, as it shows another side to Aphrodite. It tooks us quite a lot of time putting the rollers into Einas' hair and we had to think about how the scene should set up before filming.
After realising that we forgot to add the synergy in the canal scene, we decided to re-film. As we've now had previous experience with filming, I feel that we improved while filming this time. Now that we completed the filming, it was time to move on with the editing!

A brief overview of the new editing skills you've learned during the editing of your music video.
Compared to last year I think the editing for our music video is much more intense and more effective than the editing done for the thriller film opening.This is due to learning how to use Final Cut pro more effectively and due to all the new editing skills I have learnt throughout the process of making this music video. New editing skills include;

New editing skills include;
- How to use markers effectively by adding it onto every beat of the song which makes it easier to cut scenes.
- Cutting between scenes to create a good structure.
- Overlapping two scenes together.
- Desaturating.
- Adding filter effects
- Changing the speed to create a fast or slow motion for specific scenes.
- Using base tracks -filming the whole song, beginning to end which makes it easier to cut between each base track.
Why I came up with the idea to use a projection video in our MV
I/the group have been asked why we decided to use the projection video in our music video a lot, so I decided to address my thoughts behind the use of it in a blog post! I came up with the idea a while ago whilst listening to Justin Timberlake - blue ocean floor I had the idea of him in a projection room looking at old movies, I think of a lot of music video ideas whilst listening to music whether I'm on the bus or at home, etc. When listening to the song online, some time before A2 had started I discovered this video (see below) and thought it looked really cool and went with the music themes and tempo really well. Whilst reviewing a previous student video I saw they were able to use a projection board in the background so i thought of this video and told my group about it. Initially they were confused on the concept and kind of against it but when they saw my final vision they agreed and that is how i came up with the idea :)

editing day 5 (unfinished)
Editing day 5 was quite hard, we didn't have the bedroom scene completely done, so we couldn't edit a lot towards the end unless we were leaving gaps for the bedroom scene. we didn't have Naziara with us (as she was ill poor thing) so we didn't want to make major changes to the video but we still had to do something or it would've been a day wasted. Alisha and I then decided to edit up to the last verse (Back to zero, here we go...) and so we just played between the three scenes seeing if they went well or if we should change it to add another scene. Overall it was ok, i think we could've done better but it just seemed like a bad day for editing. Hopefully the next days are better <3

Social Networking
As many music artists have social network profiles, we decided to make a twitter account, @g24official1, we did this as we had to keep the media department updated and also to connect with out 'fans' by having social media we are able to promote albums, tours, singles etc. meaning we get a wider audience appealing to us. I also made a facebook which I will update once we have our music video up and I will be inviting people to 'like' the page and try to reach out to our target audience.

editing by myself
On wednesday during workshop I decided to work on the intro of the music video, what i did is i added in two new clips which is a pan of me holding the synergy product and a clip of my eyes blinking in time with the beat. I chose this as i wanted the beginning to have a tempo and to introduce the themes and what the music video will be about. I found this task fairly easy but a bit hard placing them in the right parts as i had to make sure the eye blinking was in time with the beat so i had to listen really careful. Overall it was great and here are some pictures showing what i did below!

Production - Editing Day 3
Today was the third day of editing our footage, and we carried on editing exactly how we were on Wednesday. However after showing Rebecca what we had produced in Wednesdays lesson, she gave us back some feedback and we realised how very confusing the music video was starting to look as it was jumping from location to location, rather than looking having a clear flow and structure. We have taken into account her advice and hopefully by next Wednesday (rough cut deadline) our work will start to look more like a music video. Here are some screenshots:

Production - Editing Day 2
On Wednesday we started editing some of the footage we filmed. After watching over the clips we started picking out our base tracks and adding clips which would look and work the best in certain sections of the song. Since Alisha wasn't in, Naziara and Einas had decided amongst each other which base tracks to use. We went on to cut the clips and it went well with the song and started to look more and more like a music video! (however a very rough music video of course, but we still had hope that it will come out great and turn into a great success!) Here are some screenshots from editing from Wednesdays lesson:

Reminders
Whilst spending so much time on filming, blogging and also beginning our editing, I've completely forgotten how close the deadline for the final music video is. The final deadline is in 2weeks and 3days from today! I have put reminders on my phone to help keep me on track and remind me of how close the deadline is! Hopefully my group and I will finish our final music video a few days earlier than the final deadline so we have time to look over our work and add any changes that need to be added and also leaves us enough time to make any improvements.
